komeno@riceset.comAbout FocusHear
FocusHear was built for the SDGs to Startups 2026 hackathon, a programme that challenges student teams to create ventures addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our team chose to tackle SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by building assistive technology for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
The core problem is that existing caption apps transcribe everyone in the room at once, making it impossible to follow a single conversation in a noisy environment. FocusHear lets you point your camera at a room, tap the person you want to hear, and read only their words, filtering out everyone else.
All face and hand detection runs entirely on your device. No camera data ever leaves your phone.
Accessibility Feedback
Accessibility is central to what FocusHear exists to do. If you encounter any barriers using the app, please reach out directly at carl.masters.dev@protonmail.com.
